Le groupe a été formé en 1996 et était composé du bassiste Damon Shaw, du batteur Adam Milburn, du guitariste Mark Lennard et du chanteur Simon Durrant. Ce dernier a été remplacé par Jason North peu de temps après. Le groupe a ensuite joué ses premiers concerts et a également joué avec Fear Factory, Strapping Young Lad, Sick of It All et Vision of Disorder, entre autres, et est apparu au Big Day Out en janvier 2000. En 2001, le groupe a joué sur Metal for the Brain et a sorti son premier album Believe la même année. En 2002, le groupe a joué au Grounded Festival, à l'Overcranked et au High Voltage Festival.
